I.Job SummaryPerforms and supervises daily maintenance, compliance, and repairs of closed MSW landfills in the Western US. This position is based at the Bradley Landfill, located near Burbank, CA.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

Supervises closed landfill operations and reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures. Supervise site staff, contractors and consultants conducting maintenance work at a site in order to ensure the quality and timeliness of their work. Either possess a solid working knowledge of environmental treatment system operation and maintenance requirements such as landfill gas management systems and controls, leachate management systems and controls, treatment systems and controls, groundwater and surface water systems as well as other ancillary equipment and other site maintenance requirements or has a college level degree in environmental management/science, geologic/physical sciences or engineering. Maintains and documents compliance of landfill gas and liquids management systems. Coordinates workflow and assignments of staff and contractors toward the achievement of operational goals. Supervises and monitors daily landfill operations, and reviews and controls implementation of safety regulations and company policies and procedures. Coordinates repairs, maintenance, and inspections. Collects weekly and/or monthly landfill gas, leachate and air quality readings. Creates and submits records and reports. Ability to communicate with direct reports and management. Actively monitors ongoing permitting issues. Complies with and ensures adherence to Waste Management’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations. Assists in the budget process as required. Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property of the landfill through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with supervisors/employees. Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency. Oversees personnel needs of the landfill including coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions. Travel to closed landfills throughout the western US is required and will require two to three nights away from the base location. The majority of work activities will be outside.

Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited), degree in engineering or sciences preferred. Experience: 4 years of relevant work experience preferred. Medium to strong computer skills (Word, Excel).

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required Ability to repair pumps, motors, and other mechanical/electrical devices, health, safety and environmental regulations knowledge, and supervisory experience may be required.
